7 Quick Takes

Things at our house have been gross. In like every way possible. Does that ever happen to your family? All things come screeching together in one big heap and everyone needs major attention at once? I mention it because things have been going well with this blog, and I fear that people will start to fill in their own ideas about how “together” and “holy” we are. Let me be clear. We aren’t. But we are trying. You can pray for us. That would help. We can always use prayers.

My birthday is coming up and my dad asked me what I wanted. I told him that I wanted a vacation….from my problems. Have you ever seen “What about Bob?” So funny. This is especially funny to me because we don’t go on vacation-ever. So the only choice is to go on a vacation from our problems. Hahaha. Still working on making that seem like a vacation.

3.

So since I can’t go on vacation, sometimes I blast this song. It makes me happy, and it’s dreamy. And sometimes it’s close enough to having a vacation. I hope it works for you if you need a vacation.

And if these solutions don’t work for you in getting away from your problems, then you can do it the good ol’ Catholic way and “offer it up”. Especially with Lent coming right up. If you need something to read this Lent, let me highly recommend the book, “The Little Way of Lent”. It’s daily reflections of the readings, done through the “lense” of the spirituality of St. Therese of Lisieux.

I really truly believe that making Lenten meals should be enjoyable. Simple and without meat on Fridays, but enjoyable nonetheless. I am always looking for something new and fun and delicious for our Friday Lenten meals. If you are hurting for meals for Lent, I think I am going to try and throw out some recipes to you from time to time. But don’t hold me to it. We will see how it goes. (You get what you get around here.) Anyway, I found this recipe for Creamy Tomato and Tortellini Soup on Pinterest and LOVED it. It was SO easy to make. And the taste was delicious. The only substitution is that you need veggie stock instead of chicken stock. I hope you like it.

I have decided to ease the burden of all parents out there who are being smothered by endless house chores. In my continued mission to be as lazy as possible, I feel compelled to share this tidbit with you. Did you know that it is NOT absolutely necessary to sort laundry?! I didn’t know. I was raised with meticulous clothes sorting. Which is amazing because my mother raised four kids. Who has time for that? Set the washer to cold, throw a load in, and move on people! We’ve got lives to live!

In perusing the web this week, I have decided this is my favorite thing that I read. And it fits in really well with what we are all about here at In Holy Company. We are about friendships that lead us to holiness, in authentic ways. Hallie Lord at the Moxie Wife is awesome, so you have to make time to read her article Spill It, Sister. Write on, Hallie, write on, sista!

    • Nice to “meet” you as well! I love checking in with your blog, and I really appreciate you taking the time to stop by mine! (And have fun living life instead of sorting laundry!)

  • I’m happy to hear the recommendation for The Little Way of Lent. I am planning on picking up a copy this weekend but I have not seen it in person yet.

And I will commiserate with on the lack of vacations!
